Trent Dykes

I am a commercial disputes lawyer with extensive experience working with tech companies (from startups to major global techs) in dealing with the full spectrum of commercial disputes that can arise in their businesses.

I have recent experience in working with startups on managing commercial risks arising in the context of data breach and cyber incidents. My work has also included working to resolve licensing disputes (commercial and IP), the fallout from failure of critical IT infrastructure and regulatory investigations.

I grew up in country Victoria (about four hours from Melbourne), studied law and arts (journalism/international relations) on the Gold Coast at Bond University and have worked in Melbourne, then Guernsey and London before returning to Australia and finding a true home in Sydney.

Outside of work, I can be found at my CrossFit box, in wine country (most of my vacations are planned around finding great pinot noir wherever it is in the world - I'm open to recommendations!), hunting out good BBQ and spending time with my partner Russell and our families.

I'm also committed to diversity and inclusion and was Co-Chair of DLA Piper's Iris network and participate as a champion of change in our Leadership Alliance for Women. We are always keen to partner with clients on D&I initiatives, so please let me know if you would like to join us and work together in this space. Our DLA Piper diversity and inclusion page has more information about our current D&I initiatives.
